Newburyport Police Arrest Man for Rape of a Child

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department arrested a man accused of enticing an underage victim he met over the internet for sex.

BERT REED, AGE 42, OF NEWBURYPORT was arrested Friday evening after an investigation by Newburyport Police Detectives and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. He was charged with:

• Rape and Abuse of a Child (Three Counts)
• Enticement of a Child Under 16
• Disseminating of Matter Harmful to Minors
• Possession of Child Pornography

REED was held on $50,000 bail over the weekend, pending his arraignment later today at Newburyport District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
