Newburyport Police Arrest Man for Breaking into a Motor Vehicle
Investigation Remains Ongoing after Recent Spree of Car Breaks
NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department has made an arrest after a man was allegedly seen breaking into a motor vehicle.
RYAN F. LAVALLEY, AGE 27, OF SALISBURY was arrested Monday evening and charged with Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle During the Nighttime to Commit a Felony.
On Monday, at 11:30 p.m., Officers Michael Wilichoski and Shawn Eaton were dispatched to a location on Strong Street for a report of a motor vehicle break-in. Upon arrival, officers were given a description of a suspect seen rummaging through a parked BMW. Officer Wilichoski soon located a man matching the description given to police, later identified as LAVALLEY. After an investigation on scene, LAVALLEY was arrested.
Marshal Murray praised the diligence of residents who saw something suspicious and immediately called the police.
“I cannot stress enough how vital our residents and business owners are to our efforts in law enforcement. You are our eyes and ears, and it is truly evident when we catch an alleged thief within minutes of a citizen report,” Marshal Murray said. “Your efforts help keep this community safe.”
Newburyport Police continue to actively and aggressively investigate a spate of car breaks that occurred Saturday and Sunday. At this time, LAVALLEY has only been charged in connection with the Monday incident.
LAVALLEY will be arraigned in Newburyport District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
