NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray is pleased to announce that Newburyport Police officers have extended their charitable efforts, which began with No Shave November, by continuing to sport facial hair through the remainder of the year.

In November, officers raised money to benefit Home Base, a joint effort between the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital that benefits post-9/11 veterans and families. Now, Newburyport officers have been granted an extended waiver from the department’s facial hair policy in exchange for a donation to the Salvation Army.

Officers donated approximately $50 each in exchange for an exemption from the policy, and combined raised $1,035 for the Salvation Army.

“I’m proud of our officers’ commitment to continue supporting and raising awareness for these meaningful causes throughout the holiday season,” Marshal Murray said.
