4 officers have lost their lives while serving the City Of Newburyport.

Captain Alexander Griffin was on duty as a special police officer in Newburyport and was attempting to assist another officer taking a subject into custody and breaking up a fight and was thrown to the ground and beaten, he died 16 days later of his injuries on July 20, 1879.

Captain Patrick Creeden died as a result of a fall off a bridge while pursuing several suspects who had arrest warrants. He died as result of his injuries December 26, 1905

Captain Charles Wells suffered a fatal heart attack while assisting at a scene of a fire. He died on January 15, 1920.

Officer John Page Jr. was struck by a vehicle while he was patrolling on his department motorcycle. He died on July 2, 1927.
