NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray and Fire Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III report that the Newburyport Police and Fire Departments responded today after a vehicle crashed into a shopping plaza.
Shortly after 10 a.m., Newburyport Police and Fire responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a crash at Port Plaza, 45 Storey Ave.
Upon arrival, first responders located a vehicle that had crashed into the front of a dental office. The 77-year-old operator was transported via ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A person inside the dental office was struck by the vehicle but refused medical transport.
Newburyport Police will file an immediate threat suspension with the Registry of Motor Vehicles against the operator.
The city Building Inspector was notified and responded to the scene, where they determined there was no structural damage to the building. The business will be permitted to reopen when damaged windows are boarded up and two points of egress are available.
The investigation into the crash is being led by Officer Michael Falite.
