NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray reports that the Newburyport Police Department is actively searching for a missing man.
On Saturday, July 31 at approximately 7:30 p.m., a woman reported to police that her boyfriend, Kevin Mahoney, age 33, of Newbury had not been seen since early that morning.
Mahoney was last seen wearing a salmon colored golf/polo shirt, khaki shorts and tan boat style shoes. He is 6’2″, weighs approximately 200 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.
The reporting party told police that Mahoney had been seen near the intersection of Water and Federal streets in Newburyport late Friday night/shortly after midnight Saturday and was then last seen by a member of the North End Boat Club, located at 282 Merrimac St. walking outside the club building at approximately 1:30 a.m. He was last seen in the driveway near the docks of the boat club, and his cell phone and backpack were found aboard a boat owned by Mahoney’s family, which is docked at the club.
Crews searched around the boat club on Saturday evening, and club management is providing its security camera footage to the Newburyport Police Department.
The U.S. Coast Guard was notified on Saturday evening. Rescuers are currently engaged in active search and rescue operations The Coast Guard, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Massachusetts State Police, Newburyport Fire Department and Newburyport Harbormaster are all assisting in the effort. An air/ground/water search is underway.
