NEWBURYPORT POLICE WELCOMES OFFICER TRAVIS WILE

Newburyport, MA — The Newburyport Police Department is pleased to announce the addition of Officer Travis Wile to its ranks. Officer Wile is a Newburyport native who graduated from Newburyport High School before continuing his education at UMass-Amherst where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. For the last 24 weeks, Officer Wile has been attending the Methuen Police Academy at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, MA. Officer Wile received hundreds of hours of training in areas including; criminal law, procedural law, domestic violence, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operation, firearms training, patrol procedures, investigative techniques, community policing and numerous other areas. This past Friday April 12, 2019, Officer Wile graduated from the police academy receiving his police officer certification from the Municipal Police Training Committee.
Marshal Murray, Lt. Simons, and Off. Eaton (defensive tactics instructor for the police academy) attended the graduation ceremony for Officer Wile. Officer Wile now enters into the Field Training Program with the Newburyport Police Department. Officer Wile will work with a certified Field Training Officer as he begins his career with the police department. Upon successful completion of the Field Training Program, Officer Wile will be assigned to a permanent shift.
