The Newburyport
Police Department All Terrain Vehicle unit (ATV) consists of all
sworn officers trained and prepared for beach patrol. The ATV is
assigned to Plum Island Beaches during the summer months and is used
for day and night patrols. The
Officers patrolling Plum Island beaches handle all types of
situations and emergencies. The ATV is garaged on Plum Island during
the summer months and is easily accessible for all officers if an
emergency was to occur on the beaches. The visitors to the Island
find our ATV officers are more accessible than officer in
cruisers and handle all matters in a professional and trained
manner. The ATV officer can maneuver in remote areas where the
average vehicle can not go. The ATV operates in and out
of traffic, through parking lots as well as crowds of people allot easier than
other police vehicles.
